Well, they can.
They are not only great for losing weight but nuts also have a large variety of health benefits.
But which ones?
And are raw or roasted best?

Almonds, cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, macadamias, pine nuts, Brazil nuts, pistachios and pecans are all viewed as some of the healthiest nuts around.
The International Nut and Dried Fruit Foundation see them as all having very similar nutritional properties.
Nuts contain between 9%-20% protein and are high in fibre, both of which make them great foods for weight loss.
Both encourage a feeling of “fullness” while fibre is excellent for keeping us regular to the bathroom.
They also contain a large range of essential nutrients such as B vitamins and vitamin E, zinc, iron, magnesium, potassium, selenium, copper, flavonoids and resveratrol.
While roasted can generally taste better than raw, raw nuts seem to maintain their nutritional content.
When roasted, the B vitamins in the nuts can be reduced and the good fats turn rancid.
This is potentially very bad for our health.
Salted nuts can have a negative impact on our body, too, if you are trying to lower blood pressure or fluid retention.
Yes, nuts contain fat but they still help with weight loss as they contain a higher amount of “good fats”.
And many studies have now found that having a handful of nuts a day can reduce the risk of obesity.
